Topic: The 411 on Nonprofit Formation

Nonprofit law attorney Heather Glick-Atalla will discuss the pros and cons of forming a nonprofit tax-exempt organization, the different types of nonprofits, and the formation process.

Heather Glick-Atalla is the principal attorney at Glick Atalla, APLC and is a Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust, and Probate Law. Heather focuses on both Estate Planning and Nonprofit Law, which she has practiced for over 13 years. As part of her nonprofit law practice she forms nonprofit corporations, prepares applications for federal and state tax exempt status, and serves as general counsel for nonprofit organizations that have compliance issues or are in need of assistance with nonprofit governance. Heather has written articles that have been published online and in local publications and regularly presents on various nonprofit law issues.

Heather currently serves as the President of the San Fernando Valley Bar Association, and is in her eighth year of serving on the Board of Trustees.

In 2020-2024, Heather was named as a Southern California “Super Lawyer”, and in 2013-2019, Heather was named a Southern California Super Lawyers “Rising Star” attorney by Super Lawyers Magazine. In 2014 she was nominated by the San Fernando Valley Business Journal as one of the Valley’s Trusted Advisors.

Heather graduated from the University of San Diego School of Law in 2009, and earned her bachelor of science in Business Administration from the University of Southern California in 2005. She was admitted to practice law in California in 2009. Heather is married to her law school sweetheart Nabil, and together they have two boys, Nathan and Brandon. They enjoy hiking, travel, cooking, and music concerts.
