Dr. Harrington & Jessica Dawlaty, PhD with state of the art mass spectrometer system used to identify and quantify molecules that reflect brain disorders.
Dr. Harrington received his medical degree in 1976 from Glasgow University and trained in internal medicine and neurology in Scotland. He started research on protein changes in brain disease in Glasgow, continued at the National Institute of Mental Health, Bethesda, MD and moved to the California Institute of Technology in 1988. He is known for the discovery and development of the diagnostic test for the family of prion diseases (Mad Cow Disease).
Mike joined HMRI and established the Molecular Neurology program in 1998. His work determines the causes of common brain disorders in an effort to improve diagnosis and treatment. His research focuses on migraine, neurodegenerative disorders of aging and mild traumatic brain injury.
